The
Amorphous Androgynous - The Witchfinder (07:28)
Available on: Alice In Ultraland
Lyrics:
Baby takes it all the time
She acts crazy like she's lost her mind
She says "there's good men
There's God in everyone"
Let me tell you what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna give all my love to you, oh
Let me tell you what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna give all my love to you, oh
Let me tell you what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna give all my love to you, oh
To you
Give you all of my love, oh oh
Give you all of my love, oh oh
Give you all of my love, oh oh
Give you all of my love, oh oh
Give you all of my love, oh oh
Give you all of my love, oh oh
So you testify, you testify
She will, she can't be born no
Testify, you test the fire
She says the Gods don't live above 'cos
They live and breathe within love
And they'll give you all of their love
Give you all of their love
The devil's playing in her eyes
She tells me all the time to go
But I can't seem to find my way
So let me tell you what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna give you all of my love
I'm finding all of my love,
I'm gonna give you all of my love
Give you all of my love, oh oh
Give you all of my love, give you all of my love
Notes:
This track was premiered at the Arvika festival, 15th July 2004,
where it was called Zep (Good Love). The Zep title appears to
refer to the large bluesy Led Zeppelin influence on the track, as
it sounds more than a little like something from "Led
Zeppelin III".
Gaz explains: "inspired by 1/ their mutual fascination with
the Wickerman film and its Paul Giovanni soundtrack, 2/ by a rare
recording of a Led Zeppelin track 'tangerine' which featured the
Indian dilruba and 3/ fuelled by a childhood terror of witches -
the Amorphous band became obsessed with witchcraft and paganism
and the idea of creating a track which evoked and captured these
sensibilities. Stuck by the idea that the Witch was merely a
woman who saw other dimensions but who had been castigated and
ultimately burned because of these abilities they quickly saw a
similarity between her and all the other enlightened masters who
had been killed/maligned for similar insight. Gradually over a
year the Witchfinder was conceived in four parts - It is the
sound of a classic ROCKTRONIC supergroup - Gary Lucas (Captain
Beefheart and Jeff Buckley (Mojo Pin/Grace) co-writer) strums and
picks and slides his guitarness (as Jeff Buckley referred to him)
alongside the glorious sitar and tablas of Baluji Shrivastav
which are all put through the FSOL electronic blender - the
customary far-out fx twists and sounds truly astound!! It is an
epic song (there's that word again!!) twisting and meandering
sung whispered shrieked to great effect over the four parts by
the prodigious talent of Dave Sanderson"
A radio edit
was also made as the promotional single for Alice In Ultraland.
