The
Amorphous Androgynous - High And Dry (04:54)
Available on: Alice In Ultraland
Lyrics:
She used to live on the east side of town
She'd come around
I'd say hey woman lay down by my side
You've been travelling long and wide
You need to rest a while
I said hey woman lay down by my side
I said my sweet lady
We'll see the seasons turning
We will watch the sun return
We'll see the deserts burning
Cos tomorrow we'll be high and dry
We'll flow like a river
Flow like a river, Mary
Never turning to see what's by my side
I trust I always will receive love
I trust I always will have love
I trust I always will receive love
I trust I always will have love
My sweet lady
(Come on, come on, yeah-hey, come on
Come on, come on, yeah-hey, come on
Come on, yeah-hey, come on
We'll see the seasons turning
Watch the sun return
We'll see deserts burning)
Cos tomorrow we'll be high and dry
(Come on, come on, yeah-hey, come on
Come on, come on, yeah-hey, come on)
Now listen gentlemen, please, if you of me
There's so many lives I'm told
That won't let love unfold
So let the sweet, sweet breeze that's calling you
And teaching you to be free
Like an ocean flow, never turning to see love t pass me by
Darling please don't cry
I trust I always will receive love
I trust I always will have love
I trust I always will receive love
I trust I always will have love
My sweet lady
My sweet lady
My sweet lady
Notes:
High And Dry first appeared on the EPK video on the official site
back in 2001, but little was known about the track at the time.
The piece was finished with added gospel choir for the album.
Despite the slightly confusing song structure, the piece is the
nearest thing to a conventional rock song the band have released
so far.
Gaz Explains: "Awaking from a deep sleep uplifted by the
morning sun Gaz Cobain having fasted for 2 days without water or
food felt very HIGH and certainly very DRY - on hearing the rough
backing track created the day before he immediately launched into
and improvised homage to 'Performance' era Jagger 'Memo to
Turner'. At first everyone laughed as it seemed faintly
preposterous but suddenly it clicked into place 'I trust I always
will receive love I trust I will always have love' he sang and
pouted. First written in 2001 this track just seemed to stick
around, girlfriends and friends dug it!! Over the years they
solicited a wicked piano performance from Mikey Rowe (keyboardist
with Oasis/Sheryl Crowe and on the Alfie sountrack with Mick
Jagger himself) and Dave Sanderson came over one way out weekend
in Esher and in a similar way to Cobain in 2001 had launched into
an immediate improvised performance also faintly preposterous but
kind of incredible in a ONE MAN BAND/female gospel choir/diva
impersonation kind of way!! When this had been captured it didn't
all seem so preposterous after all and the track was suddenly
complete four years after it had all started!! the band had been
on the verge of giving the track to Jagger!
