The Future
Sound Of London - Eggshell (06:45)
Available on: Lifeforms
Lyrics:
None
Notes:
A long, graceful track, with sweeping synth strings and an ethnic
bongo-type beat, Eggshell is one of the most memorable pieces on
the album. The second half features a ticking clock which gives
the piece a very similar effect to Global Communication's 14:31.
Yet another title from the endless banter around Earthbeat during
1993:
"''I'm sick of tip-toeing on the eggshells that surround
you' Pinn spluttered to Yage referring to his increasingly
eggshell ego - 'inside the fragile eggshell mind'"
The track was penned for release as a single in 1994, but the
idea was scrapped following the then imminent release of ISDN.
Possible material from the EP appeared in the form of archived
track Climbing, while the piece was later reworked as
part of the band's 5.1 surround sound exhibition at the Kinetica
museum, A Gigantic Globular Burst Of Anti-Static.
