60° south is an experiment into a more synthesised sound than previous records. with very little percussion, it is my most ambient album to date too. my girlfriend lent me a book by h. p. lovecraft and the first story, at the mountains of madness, really inspired me with wonderful vivid descriptions of the antarctic landscape; so much that the music i began to write at the time seemed to reflect that. the final album plays out a little like an impressionist painting of the antarctic, with hints of its chilly landscapes and ice flows coming through between more pastoral ambience which reminds me as much of my home. not as varied as my other records, it still contains some of my best work, including the sinister tekeli-li, the melancholic gone forever and the haunting at the mountains of madness. the album was released on renowned cdr label ambientlive.
